What motivates you?

Posted by 14hourlunchbreak - August 11th, 2010

For all you artists and programmers and musicians out there, what motivates you to work on a project?

I want to get this game done but I'm too lazy. I need some motivation.

It's turning out pretty cool by the way. ;D

What motivates you?

Comments

Im only motivated when I

a) Am away from home and family

b) Had a LOT of sleep

c) just listened to awesome music

d) im in a crush with a chick!

I always need more sleep and listening to good music is helpful I guess.

when I'm not being gay like Emanhattan

which is never amiright? ;D

everything above plus cracking open a crisp cold mountain dew

I thought I was the only one who did that until now.
This made my day.

smoking!

so I've heard ;3

The reason why I scrap the vast majority of my projects is lack of motivation. I start quite a few Collabs because if I'm aware that scrapping it will waste the time and effort of people other than myself, that motivates me to continue I guess. Other than that, I got nothing.

that's sort of why I like working alone on projects, there are less people to let down if you don't finish. Too many people means too much pressure to get it done. idk man idk.

unfunny Faggots and newfags.

yes that does often help ;)

when the magic shroomgnomes come flying and hit my head with their magic nunchuck, there you go

then maybe I should get some magic nunchucks?

when i'm in the middle of a project and start to loose gas i try to get more zen about it. i think more about what it means to me rather than how it will be received. its hard to explain but if you look at the 7 foot mural thing in my art, thats the happiest and most motivated i felt on a project because it was going way beyond what i was doing before

I can't find that mural, but I took a look at some of your other at pieces. Very inspiring stuff there. I especially like the second Atticus & Ike poster.

:)

My main motivation is that people may learn something valuable or important from my work.

It's always cool when people can learn something from your game/movie but this game I'm making is just for laughs. Not very educational. :P

my personal obsession with whatever I start

this seems to be the case for the first week or so that I'm working on something. then it's a challenge to keep going at it.

Also, perfect morning was too perfect for words.

fanx :D

welcome :)

my love for 3D and to one day get out my damn series...
when i get better that is...

some 3d animations on Newgrounds for a change might not be bad. ;D

Knowing that YOU, will get the Daily TOP Trophy!

but that's only if people really really like it. and thats a gamble.

sunshine. good music. and other art pieces

the best way to get something done is start doing it like an hour after you wake up when your brain's all alert and active. you work a thousand times better than you would in say, the evening

for some reason it seems like the other way around for me. I can think a lot better late at night. I guess I'm not much of a morning person.

Sunshine, music and art are helpful though. :)

i gotta go with starogre on this one - mt. dew is epic! for animatiing crunches

mountain dew is the best. unless it's warm and flat. :(

Music is different. I just happen to be doing whatever and listening to samples and then I hear a sample that hits me hard, and I instantly get an idea and run with it, and it usually works well. The same with playing something or making a synth.

I don't know much about the world of music, but I guess that could work. :)

Cocks. Usually cocks.

yeah, that seems to be the case with plenty of people here. :P

i have an idea and am like: wow that would be awesome!

that's usually how my projects start.

Luis yells at me to get it done.

lucky ;3

What motivates me to work on a project?
Well, there are several different factors:

1) Music. It has been very influential on me from time to time.

2)The fans. Always encouraging me to make more stuff.

3)Improv comedy. Usually from the guys who are involved in any of my projects. Some times random jokes can help give me good ideas.

4)My nitpicky POV of certain things. You know, like sometimes you feel so annoyed by something that you just want to get it out of your system and explain things from your own perspective just because it's true in a certain way.

Well, yeah...

The first three seem reasonable, but I'm not sure where you were going with the last one. Also, fans would help, if I had any :P
